Today I flew to San Francisco after teaching my last spin class until the 18th. I’ve made my classes progressively harder, and today I gave them a little gift to remember me by while they’re stuck with a sub. At the end of class every person in the room looked as if they might fall […]

Taper
In College I developed a theory about tapering. “No matter how little you’re doing, you can always do less.†This was particularly helpful for the three summers during my collegiate career when I swam only once a day and worked 45 hours a week (timing traffic signals in Seattle, which I apparently did so poorly […]
Giggling to Myself
All last week my parents were gone on vacation to the homeland (Missouri), which was great because I ended up with a great deal of alone time, which is something that has become increasingly rare for me. Here are some things that made me laugh out loud to myself. On University Avenue last week there […]
Spooky?
I picked up a copy of MixMeister Studio, a music mixing program that will allow me to make some sweet mixes for my spin class. If they don’t love me yet, they totally will. Now, my next project is to plan the perfect Halloween workout (for October 30th). I need some suggestions for Halloween music. […]
A Lesson in Diplomacy.
Here’s what I did Tuesday. It was way better than my crappy Monday. I had oatmeal and caught a bus to University of Washington (Left is the IMA). I swam with Aaron in the IMA pool, which is managed by idiots, and which is currently set up in such a way that accidents are imminent. […]
Another Vexing List
Here are some things that made my day get continually worse after getting out of bed this morning (that was a huge mistake). I accidentally poured about a 1/4 of a bottle of hot sauce on my breakfast burrito because I’m used to the bottles with the drip top and this one didn’t have that […]
Kona Day
Saturday was the Ironman World Championships, which is the one day of the year where I don’t have to pretend to care about ironman, and will actually sit and watch the coverage, by choice, and with enthusiasm. The Kona Ironman is is inspiring. I almost raced it in 2006, but (luckily) I broke my wrist […]
Any Bulldogs in the House?
Not Gonzaga. Garfield High School, which is where I spent four wonderful years. If you want to get an idea of what my high school was about, rent the movie Heart of the Game. It’s a documentary about the cross town rival HS basketball program and it’s an inspiring movie. But they also show […]
Spinning Music?
I signed up to teach a spin class at U of Washington. It starts in a week, so I have until Tuesday to build a repository of good spin music. Anyone have suggestions? (What I mean is PLEASE HELP ME!!!)
I’m also trying to figure out what I should be for Halloween this year. The only rule is it has to be better than my cookie monster outfit last year.

Lap Swimming
If everyone else didn’t suck, life would be easier. Ok, maybe that’s a little harsh, but sometimes the interactions I have during morning lap swim (or lap swim at any time really) can put me in a bad mood. Here is a short list of things that annoy me at the pool: (if you disagree, […]
