You can’t protest a result after the race, what the official says on the course stands no matter what. If the PR athlete had continued it would have resulted in a one-year suspension.

Lame all the way around. Seriously, who hasn’t had a water bottle fly off their bike in the middle of a race?

This just sounds like a lack of professionalism from the race (poorly designed and set up transition) and the officiating (just poor all the way around).

Can’t you protest the result afterwards?

I forget, can you continue on in the race when you’ve gotten those penalties like the PR fellow, and then protest afterwards. I know in some sports you can do that (track for one).
